The Middle Path
Not every distiller wants a tabletop still or a barn-sized pot. The 10 Gallon Advanced Model sits in between. It's a complete copper still with 220V electric heat, big enough for a meaningful run and small enough that a failed experiment is a lesson, not a loss.
One Still, Many Spirits
A 10 gallon pot is a generalist. Here's how it suits each spirit:
- Whiskey: enough room for a real grain mash, with copper reacting with sulfur compounds in the vapor.
- Rum: molasses and sugar washes run steadily on electric heat.
- Brandy and schnapps: a good size for a season's fruit wine from a backyard orchard.
- Gin: scale up a botanical recipe you worked out on a smaller still.
- Vodka: neutral spirit takes patience and repeated runs, and 10 gallons makes each pass worth it.
Electric Heat, Steady Hands
220V puts real power under the pot, and electric heat stays consistent without an open flame. Consistency is what a scientist needs. When the heat holds steady, you can isolate the other variables: the wash, the cut points and the pace of the run. Change one thing at a time, keep notes and taste. That's how a distiller becomes an alchemist.
You'll need a 220V circuit where you plan to run it. Starting from $1249. Call 603-997-6786 with questions.
Owning a still is legal in the US. Making alcohol requires a federal TTB permit, and you must follow federal, state and local law. Stills like this one are also used for water and essential oils.
